Modul EM/COR - Economic Modeling Core

Inhalt

Ablauf

5 topics, with 1 lecture per topic. After each lecture a home assignment is released, to be worked on in groups of 1-2 people. The exercises consist of modelling certain economic models in MatLab. Before the next lecture, a tutorial is held, where the results, problems etc. of the exercises are discussed. The assignments account for 30% of the grade, iirc.

After the lectures and exercises, each group has to prepare a presentation. You have to choose a paper from a list of suggested papers (or find your own), and prepare a 10-15minute presentation about this paper. Also, you have to try and re-create a simplified version of the model from the paper yourself and also present this.

The presentation accounts for 70% of the grade.

Benötigte/Empfehlenswerte Vorkenntnisse

Macroeconomics; Math;

overall the lecture is probably easier for students with a math background, than with only a business informatics background

Prof. Siassi puts a lot of effort into making the lectures as enjoyable as possible. Also, the course materials are made very well and organized very good.

Grading was pretty nice, if you do the exercises as well as you can, and put some effort into your presentation you can easily get a 1 or 2

Tipps

The topics are quite interesting and presented very well, but I would recommend to only do this course if you're really actually interested. You will not have a great time doing this course if you just want to introduce yourself to macro-economics or want to do an easy module.

Highlights / Lob

one of the best organized lectures I've had in my studies at TU.

Prof. Siassi also was really motivated and provided great feedback. If you show interest in these topics you can get a lot out of this course.
