Inhalt

Overview of (a lot of) different visualization techniques, different kinds of data, and how to possilby evaluate visualizations. Students present material from scientific publications to each other.

Ablauf

[SS 2019]:

  • Students prepare small presentation (10 min.) about a paper that describes evaluation of a visualization method. Other possible topics are: foundations of human visual perception, and similar/related topics. Two suitable papers should be suggested by students, one of this is then used for the presentation. A 3-page summary of the chosen paper has to be submitted, along the slides.
  • Groups of 2 students conduct a "thinking aloud study" about an (interactive) visualization, and write 3-page report
  • Lecture dates then consist mainly of presentations by students, plus small discussions

Not too high. Paper search, preparation of presentation + report, thinking aloud study (depending on your group partner) + write up. Presence is mandatory (1x absence is OK), so lecture dates.
