Inhalt[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

This course is the second part of TU Wien:Design Thinking: Ideation VU (Tellioglu). In this course, you will develop a prototype according to the generated idea of the last semester. Additionally, you will learn different techniques such as

  • Creating Sketches, Wireframes, and Mockups
  • Tech Probes
  • Design Workshops
  • Writing prototype concepts
  • "Defining" the product which includes creating manuals and promotional content, specify the product identity (logo, font, color etc.)

Ablauf[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

In most cases, you will be working with the group from last semester. When I did the course (2019S) one of our group member quits, but instead we got an erasmus student as a new member.

At the beginning of the course, the group should present the idea and give a rough schedule of task distribution and timeline. There are also two presentations where you present your team progress (intermedia presentation and final presentation). During the course, there are mandatory lectures, but in comparison to the first part of the course, there are much less. This also applies for the assignments. There are in total 6 assignments, which include conceptualising and developing the prototype, conducting design workshops and technology probes, and designing the product. Distributed to the semester there will be much less to write and analysis.

For the prototype you will also get materials (e.g. Arduino) from the lecturers. If you need any other materials, just need to ask them.

Benötigte/Empfehlenswerte Vorkenntnisse[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

It is an advantage to have someone who has experience with either Arduino or Raspberry PI.

Vortrag[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

There are several lectures about the methods you will use for the prototype only at the beginning of the semester. There are around 4-5 lectures only. It is still recommended to visit them.

There will also be tutors during the semester whom you can ask when you have questions about your project. The lecturers are also pretty easy to reach.

Übungen[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

The assignment in this course are all very practical and explorative. You do a lot of designs and implementation. There are still analysis and documentation to hand in, but it is much more easier and more interesting.

There will be in total three presentation during the semester: one about the concrete idea, one intermediate presentation, and the final presentation in Seestadt. At the final presentation you will be asked to bring your prototype and all the materials you created for the product (such as the manual and promotional materials).

Prüfung, Benotung[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

The grade consist of the assignments, 3 presentations, and the design work.

Dauer der Zeugnisausstellung[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

Final presentation: 26.06.2019; Certificate: 23.07.2019

Zeitaufwand[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

The implementation and documentation of the prototype cause the most efforts. As well as for the designing the product (CI, manual, promotional folders) takes a lot of work.

Tipps[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

Although there are not many mandatory lectures, use the time slots for group meetings for example. It is also recommended to start early with the implementation of the prototype, because of unexpected bugs or other incidents.
