Inhalt[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

The course covers the storage and compression of images, videos and audio data. The assignments in 2022 WS involved some Python coding using Jupyter notebooks including ffmpeg.

Ablauf[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

Most lectures do not require attendance. The lecturer goes through the slides. In 2022 WS there were some lectures where you could explain your progress in the assignments, ask questions and get some points if you answer questions from fellow students.

Benötigte/Empfehlenswerte Vorkenntnisse[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

Probably some basic Python knowledge, but you can also learn this during the course. However, Python will not be explained in the lectures.

Explanations of the slides, sometimes more detailed, but in general explanations are rather superficial and you need to use the book to learn details.

  • The assignments are rather easy compared to other courses. You can solve most tasks using a bit of research on the web.
  • The questions for the exam are very detailed (multiple choice) and you need to plan enough time to study for it (even specific dates are asked).

The following book is listed as required reading:

I would recommend to score a lot of points in the assignments.

Verbesserungsvorschläge / Kritik[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

  • The course covers compression and storage of multimedia data on a level, which I find detailed enough.
  • Due to the form of the exam, I would not recommend this course. I would prefer to have an exam, which does not use multiple choice questions, but have more difficult assignments.
